Williamsport is a village in Pickaway County, Ohio founded along the banks of Deercreek. According to the 2010 Census, the Village has a population of 1,023 and a total area of 1.84 square miles. The Village is home to two parks with playgrounds, ball fields, shelter houses, and a gym. The Deercreek Dam Days festival is held in the Village each May. Events center on the Deercreek reservoir and dam as well as a rural lifestyle.
OUR STORY
Williamsport reportedly was founded in 1800 before Ohio became a state. The first lots were surveyed and platted in the year 1818. In Honor of the, then postmaster, John Williams, the village was name Williamsport.
History of Williamsport indicates that the first settlers were high caliber people. They lived in a sober, dignified manner, attained knowledge through social functions and sired resourceful, impressive offspring.
Williamsport was "home" to the Harmount family who produced and traveled with the "Uncle Tom's Cabin shows. Many important government offices have been filled by Williamsport citizens, influencial business men, men in the professions and craftsmen list Williamsport as their bithplace.
A history of the town reveals that many years ago, a group of perceptive and sounds business men formed a bank and banking system. The soundness of the venture was proven for at a time when banks failed, this secure organization remains solvent. The founders were perceptive, having established a sound business, a community was made stable, and so it has remained.
